The Iraqi Prime Minister and head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri Al-Maliki,  urged the people of Anbar Province to fully participate in this weekend’s elections and to vote for whichever candidate they see fit for running the country’s affairs.
Al-Maliki believes that a strong turnout in the province of Anbar, regardless to the result, is key to strengthening the democratic process and the unity of the country.

 



Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki rejected suggestions that sectarianism was back on the agenda as the 7th March 2010 elections approached.  In a speech whilst on the campaign trail, PM Al-Maliki said “I am not on any sectarian side, I stand for all Iraqis.  I have always said, from the day I was handed this responsibility, that I am no one’s man.  I have looked out for the interest of Iraq and the Iraqi people in all my actions, and we say that we will befriend those who are friendly to Iraq.”

 



Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki addressed the public in Najar as part of his ongoing pre-elections tour of the country and spoke of how the electioneering and elections competition has led some to abandon printing posters of their own candidates, choosing to print material to defame their opponents instead.  He revealed the recent finding of a printing house in the district of Al-Sa’doon which has been printing false material in the hopes of defaming the political process and destabilising the country.

 



The most geographically disperse live question and answer session in the history of Iraqi electioneering took place on Sunday 28th February 2010.  The session was held by the State of Law Coalition and the participating candidates were Defence Minister Abdul-Qadir Al-Obaidi, Member of the House of Representatives Dr. Haider Al-Abadi, and Member of the House of Representatives Hachim Al-Hassani.

 



Current Iraqi Prime Minister and leading candidate for the State of Law Coaltion, Nouri Maliki, will be fielding questions from the Iraqi Diaspora in London via live satellite link this Sunday 28th February 2010 at 4pm GMT.

 



While on a visit to the province of Al-Muthana, Prime Minister and State of Law Coalition candidate Nouri Al-Maliki emphasised the importance of the citizen in Iraq. In a speech in the city of Al-Simawa, the Prime Minister explained: “Our aim is to build a state which respects sovereignty and respects the autonomy of every individual.
